The marine industry is growing and thousands of job opportunities exist right now.

To help meet this demand and diversify the workforce, the federal government, through the Oceans Protection Plan, is providing $2.5 million in bursaries for women and Indigenous peoples to pursue marine education. As a woman or Indigenous person, you may qualify to have 90% of the course cost covered.

Scholarships [Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro]

Each year, Hydro supports educational and academic achievements by providing scholarships to students at Memorial University, College of the North Atlantic, and to children of Nalcor Energy and Hydro employees and retirees who achieve high academic standings.

External Scholarships
Hydro makes annual educational contributions to Memorial University’s Schools of Business and Engineering and the College of the North Atlantic. All scholarships are awarded by the respective educational institutions. In 2009, Hydro will invest $19,000 for the following external scholarships:

CSEG Scholarship Trust Fund - Application [Canadian Society of Exploration Geophysicists, CSEG]

Established in 1970, the CSEG Scholarship Trust Fund awards annual scholarships to deserving geophysics students from universities across Canada. These scholarships are funded primarily through generous corporate and individual donations, and also through interest generated by the memorial trust funds of Chris Elms, Ted Popilchak and Bob Won. In order to qualify for an award, students must be enrolled at a Canadian university in an academic program leading to an exploration geophysics career in industry, teaching or research.

The Pengrowth-Nova Scotia Energy Scholarship Program - University Application [Nova Scotia Department of Energy, NSDOE]

A $750 bursary is available for Nova Scotia students in 3rd year of study in the following programs: Faculty of Forestry and Environmental Management for those in the UNB Forest Ecosystem Management Program or Forest Engineering Program (RPF option). This annual award is intended to create awareness of, and future participation in, the various professional foresters associations in Canada, and more particularly in Nova Scotia.

Catherine Lalonde Memorial Scholarship [Canadian Wood Council, CWC]

The Catherine Lalonde Memorial Award will be presented to a graduate student who demonstrates excellence in their studies of structural wood or wood design. The Canadian Wood Council (CWC) invites submission from graduate students in engineering, architecture, wood science and forestry. Research projects must demonstrate direct benefit for structural products manufactured by the Canadian forest products industry.
