Apprenticeship is a long-standing part of the training and education system in New Brunswick. It is a structured training program that requires the committed participation of three partners: the apprentice, the employer and the government represented by Apprenticeship and Occupational Certification.

All private occupational training organizations in New Brunswick must be registered under the Private Occupational Training Act. Although this registration requirement does provide some basic protection to you, the consumer, it does not certify the quality of the training, or the ethics or competence of the training organizations. It is your responsibility to check these things out yourself. By becoming an informed consumer, you will make better training decisions and maximize the return on your financial and time investment.

Training and Skills Development (TSD) program has been introduced in an effort to ensure that case managed individuals, whose employment action plan identifies skill development as being necessary, have access to funding to assist them in achieving their goal.

The Work Ability Program provides work experience opportunities to unemployed individuals who require a job placement to overcome a barrier as identified through their employment action plan. By placing an individual with an employer, they can work towards becoming job ready by establishing a career goal, developing skills, or addressing specific needs.

Coaching is tailored to meet individual needs and can include subjects such as business plan development, accounting, and marketing.

An Employment Counsellor will help individuals search for permanent employment, starting with an employment action plan. Based on interests, skills and hopes for the future, the Employment Counsellor will help define career goals and assist in making a plan to achieve them.
