This project attempts to identify and examine the critical factors for success in a comparison of the different First Nations in Atlantic Canada engaged in the commercial fisheries who received funding as a result of the Marshall decision. The study brings together the voices of 90 Mi'kmaq and Maliseet fishers and fisheries coordinators, documenting what they see as successes and areas for improvement in the First Nations fishery in Atlantic Canada.

This study examines the education and employment experiences of a cross-section of Aboriginal people in Atlantic Canada who completed post-secondary studies, as well as those who did not complete their studies, to identify possible barriers and challenges they experienced during their post-secondary studies and while searching for employment.

Community accountability means direct communication with the people to provide information to and to receive feedback and input from Band Members. It provides an opportunity to discuss Band Council business in an open and transparent manner. Community Accountability is achieved through a number of processes including the Annual Report, the audit, and the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Appropriations are the process of allocating anticipated revenues (see Revenue Forecast) to Band programs and agencies. Program Work Plans outline exactly how much money is to be transferred to each program and when.

The Connections Career Centre is an aboriginal program whose mandate is to promote and develop demand for the aboriginal population in the workforce by building relationships and partnerships with employers and aboriginal communities and organizations in the region.

The mission of the Mi'kmaq Native Friendship Centre is to provide structured, social-based programming for Urban Aboriginal People while serving as a focal point for the urban aboriginal community to gather for a variety of community functions and events.
